Earth Viewing Experiment - NASA TV ISS HD - is an Educational TV channel.
This High Definition Earth Viewing (HDEV) Experiment online in the ISS was activated on April 30, 2014, mounted at the External Payload Facility of the European Space Agency’s Columbus module.
Experiments consist of some commercial HD video cameras that are aimed at the earth that are enclosed in a pressurized and temperature controlled housing. From these cameras the video is transmitted back and also streamed live on this channel to earth.
When the HDEV video is in “black” image it means that the International Space Station (ISS) is on the night side of the Earth. And if it’s in “gray” image it is switching between cameras or communications with the ISS is not available.
Most of HDEV operations are performed by student teams all through the life of the project.
A great view of the Earth can be seen.
