Info about Fox 26 Houston TV channel : Fox 26 Houston is a News (Live) TV Channel from United States. Language: EnglishKRIV FOX 26 first went on the air as KVRL in August 1971 but soon changed its call letters to KDOG. During its early days in Houston, Channel 26 aired a wide variety of programs in both English and Spanish.
It was May 1978 when Metromedia bought the channel and changed its call letters to what it is known as today -- KRIV. The call letters were based off the name of one of the company's executives.In 1983, KRIV started its first newscast and diversified its programming with more high profile shows consisting of entertainment and information. Just three years later, the station was purchased by its current owner, and KRIV became one of the first stations in the FOX television network. It was at this time in 1986 that KRIV became known as FOX 26.
In 1997, the station and its staff moved from its original studios on Westheimer Road to a state-of-the-art digital facility on the Southwest Freeway near the 610 Loop. During the move, the newscast set, graphics, and logo were upgraded. With the move brought new responsibility, with KRIV serving as a studio site for various FOX court programs like Christina's Court and Judge Alex. While court show production ended at KRIV in 2009, the extra studio space continues to be used by FOX 26 Morning News.
In the summer of 2006, FOX 26 celebrated the launch of its website, MyFoxHouston.com.
As a FOX station, KRIV now runs more local news programming than any other station in Houston, and in early 2009 it started broadcasting all of its newscasts in high definition.
FOX 26 News currently broadcasts nearly 45 hours of local news programming each week:
Monday through Friday: FOX 26 Morning News, 4 to 9 a.m. FOX 26 Morning News Extra, 9 to 10 a.m. FOX 26 News at Noon, 12 to 12:30 p.m. FOX 26 News at 5 p.m., 5 to 6 p.m. FOX 26 News at Nine, 9 to 10 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: FOX 26 Morning News Weekends, 5-8 a.m. FOX 26 News at 5 p.m., 5 to 6 p.m. FOX 26 News at Nine, 9 to 10 p.m.
