About RTP1
RTP1 is the flagship free-to-air television channel of Radio e Televisao de Portugal (RTP), Portugal's state-owned public broadcaster. It launched on 7 March 1957 as the country's first regular television service and was simply called RTP before adopting its current name.
RTP1 carries mainstream generalist programming, including the Telejornal evening news, current affairs, Portuguese drama and fiction, films, entertainment shows, and major sports and special events. It is one of the most watched channels in Portugal and broadcasts in Portuguese. Viewers can watch RTP1 live online for free on the broadcaster's streaming service, RTP Play, which also streams RTP's other channels such as RTP2, RTP3, RTP Memoria and RTP Internacional, and offers programmes on demand.
