About RÚV
RÚV is the main television channel of Ríkisútvarpið, Iceland's national public service broadcaster, founded in 1930 and based in Reykjavík with regional centres around the country. The channel carries news bulletins, current affairs, Icelandic drama and documentaries, children's programs, culture, sport and feature films and international series, with a remit to support the Icelandic language and cultural heritage.
The broadcaster also runs the radio stations Rás 1 and Rás 2, the part-time channel RÚV 2 for special events, and one of the most visited news websites in Iceland. The broadcaster is funded by a dedicated public broadcasting fee. The channel can be watched live on the official website and apps, although some programs may be restricted to viewers in Iceland due to rights.
