About Russia-1
Russia-1 (Россия-1) is a national free-to-air television channel owned by the state broadcaster VGTRK (All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company). It began broadcasting in 1991 and is one of the most watched channels in Russia. Its schedule includes the Vesti news programmes, political talk shows, drama series, feature films, entertainment and game shows, concerts and major national events.
Regional VGTRK stations insert local news into the channel in many parts of the country. Russia-1 can be watched live online free of charge on VGTRK's streaming platform Smotrim, which has replaced the older live.russia.tv player, and through the Smotrim mobile apps. International viewers in some countries receive the related RTR-Planeta channel instead. The channel's YouTube presence was blocked in 2022.
