Sometimes what matters is not where a channel comes from but whether you understand it. TVOPEDIA lets you browse live TV channels by language, so you can find official streams in your own language from any country, or practise a language you are learning.
How to browse live TV channels by language
Open the languages index. It lists every language with at least one channel in the directory, along with the number of channels. Choose a language to see all of its channels on one page. Each channel page then links to the broadcaster’s official live stream, or plays it directly when the broadcaster offers an official embeddable player.
Browsing by language is useful because many languages are spoken in more than one country. Spanish-language channels, for example, come from Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, the United States and elsewhere, and the language page brings them together.
Popular languages
Some of the largest language pages on the site:
- English-language live TV, with channels from the US, the UK, India, Australia and many other countries.
- Spanish-language channels from Europe and the Americas.
- Arabic channels from across the Middle East and North Africa.
- German-language channels from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
- French-language channels from France, Switzerland, Belgium and Canada.
Other languages with several channels include Turkish, Dutch, Italian, Greek, Russian, Hungarian, Portuguese, Hindi, Hebrew and Urdu. Smaller pages cover languages such as Catalan, Basque, Irish and Icelandic. The number of channels per language changes as channels are added and removed, so it is worth checking back from time to time.
Language, country or category?
Each way of browsing answers a different question:
- Language is best when you want to understand what is being said, whatever the country.
- Country is best for local news and regional channels from a specific place. See the list of countries.
- Category is best when you want a type of programming, such as news, music or religious channels.
- Combine them by starting with a language page and then opening channels from the country or category you are most interested in.
Channels that broadcast in more than one language may appear on several language pages.
Tips
- Save channels you like with the heart button so they appear in My channels on the home page.
- News channels are a good way to practise listening in a new language, since the same stories are often covered in several languages.
- Some streams are geo-blocked outside their home country. If one does not play, try another channel in the same language.
