About Channel One
Channel One (Первый канал) is Russia's main national television channel, broadcasting free-to-air from Moscow and owned by a group of shareholders in which the Russian state holds a controlling stake. It is the successor of the Soviet Programme One and of ORT, and took its current name in 2002.
The schedule combines the Vremya evening news and other news bulletins with talk shows, drama series, feature films, entertainment and game shows, sports and major national events and concerts. The channel reaches almost the whole of Russia and has international versions for viewers abroad. Its official website, 1tv.ru, offers a free live stream of the broadcast in a web browser, together with on-demand episodes of many programmes, and the channel also offers official mobile apps.
