About RTR-Planeta
RTR-Planeta is the international channel of the Russian state broadcaster VGTRK, launched on 1 July 2002 for Russian-speaking audiences living outside Russia. It is based in Moscow and broadcasts around the clock in Russian, drawing its schedule from VGTRK's domestic channels Russia-1, Russia-K (Culture) and Russia-24: news, talk shows, drama series, films, entertainment and cultural programmes.
Several regional feeds are adjusted to different time zones, and distribution is through satellite, cable and IPTV operators. VGTRK's corporate site now presents the channel under the brand Rossiya RTR. The European Union banned its broadcasting in June 2022 as part of its sanctions against Russia, and several neighbouring countries had earlier suspended it. The CIS feed can be watched live on VGTRK's official Smotrim platform.
