About Canal 13
Canal 13 is the public television channel of Costa Rica, operated by the state company Sistema Nacional de Radio y Televisión (SINART), which also runs Radio Nacional. The channel began broadcasting in 1978 and is carried on digital terrestrial television on channel 13.1 in high definition. Its schedule focuses on news, cultural and educational programming, documentaries, Costa Rican film and public service content, all in Spanish.
Between 2017 and 2022 the station was branded Trece Costa Rica Televisión before returning to the Canal 13 name under a new SINART administration. In recent years it has relaunched its newscast and aired educational strands produced with the Ministry of Public Education. Viewers can find information about the channel through SINART, and the station is available free over the air across much of the country.
